Nightwish’s Tuomas Holopainen Discusses New Album ‘Yesterwynde’

  • Upcoming Album: Nightwish’s keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen discussed the band’s upcoming album, “Yesterwynde,” set to be released on September 20, 2024, via Nuclear Blast. This will be the band’s tenth studio album, following “Human. :II: Nature.” from 2020.
  • First Single: Holopainen spoke about the album’s first single, “Perfume Of The Timeless,” which is an eight and a half minute long track with the chorus beginning at 3:30. He highlighted the band’s creative freedom and legacy that allow them to take such artistic risks.
  • Impact of Lineup Changes: Despite the departure of bassist/vocalist Marko Hietala, Holopainen mentioned that the writing style for “Yesterwynde” did not significantly change, although the band now features two vocalists instead of three. He praised new bassist Jukka Koskinen’s skills and contribution to the band’s sound.
  • No Tour Plans: Nightwish has no plans to tour in support of “Yesterwynde” immediately. Holopainen explained that the band is taking a break from touring but reassured fans that this is not the end of the band, as they have signed a multi-record deal with Nuclear Blast.
  • Track Listing: The album includes tracks such as “Yesterwynde,” “An Ocean Of Strange Islands,” “The Antikythera Mechanism,” “Perfume Of The Timeless,” and others, totaling twelve songs.
  • Themes and Inspirations: “Perfume Of The Timeless” reflects on the idea of continuity and legacy, inspired by the concept of being part of an unbroken chain of ancestors.
  • Future Music: Holopainen confirmed that Nightwish will continue to make music, and the break from touring is just a pause to recharge.
