In a post on his website, Neil Young Archives, the rock legend explained his reasons for withdrawing:
- Initial Excitement: Young expressed enthusiasm for playing at Glastonbury with his band, the Chrome Hearts.
- Conflict With the BBC: Young claimed that the BBC, now a Glastonbury partner, wanted him to participate in ways he was not comfortable with.
- Corporate Concerns: He stated, “Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being.”
Young added, “We will not be playing Glastonbury on this tour because it is a corporate turn-off.”
Glastonbury’s Response
The festival has not commented on Young’s claims. It remains unclear what specific requests or conditions led to his decision.
Glastonbury 2025 Lineup So Far
The festival, set to return to Worthy Farm from June 25-29, has yet to announce its full lineup. However, confirmed acts include:
- Rod Stewart: Performing the Sunday afternoon Legends Slot, Stewart expressed excitement about returning to the stage.
- Nile Rodgers & Chic: Accidentally confirmed by Rodgers during his Rolling Stone Awards acceptance speech in November.
