Dream Theater Releases New Single “A Broken Man” and Details Upcoming Album “Parasomnia”

Progressive metal icons Dream Theater have dropped “A Broken Man,” the second single from their upcoming album, Parasomnia, set for release on February 7, 2025. The album marks drummer Mike Portnoy’s highly anticipated return to the band since 2009’s Black Clouds & Silver Linings.

  • The Song: “A Broken Man” delves into the psychological struggles of a war veteran suffering from sleep disorders like nightmares and insomnia. The track incorporates real audio from veterans discussing their traumas.
  • Album Themes: Parasomnia explores the world of disruptive sleep phenomena, including sleepwalking and night terrors. Its 71-minute runtime features tracks like “Night Terror” and “Bend the Clock,” promising a musical journey reminiscent of classic Dream Theater.
  • Production & Art: Produced by guitarist John Petrucci, the album features cover art by long-time collaborator Hugh Syme.
  • Portnoy’s Comeback: Fans can expect a return to the “classic Dream Theater” sound. Portnoy’s reunion with the band has reinvigorated their dynamic, as emphasized by keyboardist Jordan Rudess, who called Portnoy’s contributions “unmistakable” in shaping the new record.

Dream Theater’s Parasomnia will undoubtedly be a significant release for fans, celebrating both Portnoy’s return and the band’s enduring legacy.
