Lil Nas X’s New Project ‘Dreamboy’ Faces Plagiarism Claims

Lil Nas X announced his upcoming single “Light Again!” and teased a new project titled Dreamboy, describing it as a personal journey of “coping with loss” and “fighting for a new world.” However, shortly after sharing the artwork for Dreamboy, he was accused of plagiarism by Sega Bodega (real name Salvador Navarrete), who pointed out striking similarities between the Dreamboy cover and the artwork for his own 2021 single “Angel On My Shoulder.”

Plagiarism Allegations and Online Reaction

  • Sega Bodega’s Reaction: Navarrete expressed frustration, writing, “Not even trying to put a spin on it is where I’m like yeesh.” He criticized Lil Nas X for only posting the artwork as a temporary Instagram Story without proper credit.
  • Past Controversies: This isn’t the first time Lil Nas X has faced accusations of copying. In 2021, his Montero (Call Me By Your Name) video drew comparisons to FKA Twigs’ Cellophane. Director Andrew Thomas Huang noted the similarities, prompting an open dialogue between Twigs and Lil Nas X, where he acknowledged her influence.

Lil Nas X’s Dreamboy is intended as a deeply personal project, but the backlash over its visuals has sparked renewed debate about originality and artistic influence in the music industry. Fans will have to wait and see if the rapper addresses the latest allegations more directly.
